Having trouble figuring out all the new technology that is out there to help your child with school related activities? Are you wondering what the difference between an iPad and an iPod is? This workshop will provide an overview of the features and accessibility options available on Apple products to help students with disabilities. There will be general discussion and exploration of a variety of apps that support students with special needs in communication and curricular areas. We will also look at some Internet resources that can be used in the home and at school to support individuals with disabilities. Please note that this workshop is NOT a hands-on workshop.

Strategies for Struggling Readers

Does your child struggle with reading? Does he/she avoid any task that requires reading? Does he show frustration with reading assignments? If so, this workshop will help! Successful readers are active readers, and they use many strategies to make sense of text. This workshop will introduce parents to some of the strategies used by successful readers, such as visualizing, making connections, and predicting. Participants will experience these strategies, and support will be provided to help parents incorporate these activities during shared reading times with their children.
