Ridley School District is proactive in helping its students with issues of childhood bullying through the implementation of the Olweus
Bullying Prevention Program.
The
Olweus [pronounced Ol-VEY-us] Bullying Prevention Program is a comprehensive,
school-wide program designed for use in elementary, middle, or junior high
schools. Its goals are to reduce and prevent bullying problems among
school children and to improve peer relations at school. The program has been
found to reduce bullying among children, improve the social climate of classrooms,
and reduce related antisocial behaviors, such as vandalism and truancy.
Bullying is one of the most difficult issues students face. Even with a
school’s best efforts, students may still experience bullying in
classrooms, school hallways, the lunchroom and the playground or
athletic fields. The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is
the most researched and best-known bullying prevention program
available today. Implemented at the school, classroom, and individual
levels, the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is designed to reduce bullying, prevent future bullying, and improve relationships at every level. Read more.
Extensive
professional development for all faculty using the Olweus Program was
funded through a series of grants from the Pennsylvania Department of
Education and the Center for Safe Schools and Communities.
